Utilities Awarded for Safe & Reliable Service

Five member-owners of WPPI Energy have earned a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) designation from the American Public Power Association for providing reliable and safe electric service. Located in Wisconsin, the utilities include Evansville Water & Light, Richland Center Electric Department, River Falls Municipal Utilities, Sun Prairie Utilities, and Two Rivers Water & Light.

“Being recognized as an RP3 utility is a huge honor, and one that these utilities have earned through hard work and dedication to serving their communities,” stated Chris Chartier, director of distribution services with WPPI Energy.

The RP3 designation, which lasts for three years, recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity. The five utilities join four other member-owners of WPPI Energy that achieved the award in 2019 and 2020. Those utilities are Cedarburg Light & Water, Kaukauna Utilities, Menasha Utilities, and Plymouth Utilities. Less than 300 public power utilities nationwide hold the prestigious RP3 title.

“I think over the last year or so, we’ve seen the vital importance of running a reliable and safe utility,” says Aaron Haderle, Chair of APPA’s RP3 Review Panel and Manager of Transmission and Distribution Operations at Kissimmee Utility Authority, Florida. “The utilities receiving the RP3 designation have proven that they are committed to running a top-notch public power utility by implementing industry best practices.”
