WPPI Energy utilities receive Smart Energy Provider designation

Member Utilities

An additional nine WPPI Energy utilities can boast the intelligence of their work managing electricity after American Public Power Association named the locally owned electric utilities Smart Energy Providers during its annual Customer Connections Conference held from Oct. 27-30.

APPA represents the more than 2,000 public power utilities throughout the country. The SEP program recognizes best practices by utilities that show commitment to energy efficiency, distributed generation and environmental initiatives. This designation lasts three years.

Utilities with this designation are given national recognition for making the effort to incorporate sustainability and efficiency while maintaining affordability. The process evaluates their work against best industry practices, providing a litmus test for current work and guiding criteria for potential improvement.

There are 111 public power utilities that are currently recognized as Smart Energy Providers throughout the country. Of these, 29 WPPI Energy member utilities hold the designation.
