WPPI Energy utilities celebrate Smart Energy Provider Week

Member Utilities

Of the 111 nationwide public power utilities recognized by American Public Power Association as Smart Energy Providers, 29 are WPPI Energy member utilities. Smart Energy Provider Week, Feb. 10-14, highlights how utility programs make a positive impact on their community through energy efficiency, sustainability and other aspects of everyday operations.

Nine WPPI Energy utilities received the designation in 2024.

The designation, which lasts three years, recognizes the best utility practices in energy efficiency. APPA represents the more than 2,000 locally owned utilities that power towns and cities throughout the country.

Utilities with this designation are nationally recognized for making the effort to incorporate sustainability and efficiency while maintaining affordability. The process evaluates their work against best industry practices, providing a litmus test for current work with programs addressing topics such as distributed energy resources and communication and customer experience. It also provides guiding criteria for potential improvement.
