Seven WPPI Energy Members Recognized as Smart Energy Providers

Member Utilities

Seven additional WPPI Energy member utilities are now recognized as Smart Energy Providers. The American Public Power Association (APPA) announced the public power utilities earning the designation at their Customer Connections Conference, held Oct. 27-28.

This recognition is awarded to utilities who demonstrate a strong commitment and proficiency in four areas: energy efficiency, distributed generation, renewable energy, and environmental initiatives. The application requires a rigorous, in-depth review comparing each utility against nationally recognized utility best practices in all four areas.

Congratulations to these new Smart Energy Provider designees:

  • Eagle River
  • Hartford
  • Juneau
  • Negaunee
  • Slinger
  • Sturgeon Bay
  • Waupun

When APPA created the Smart Energy Provider designation in 2019, the energy services team at WPPI Energy recognized that members’ joint action efforts successfully meet or exceed the best practices benchmark criteria, and energy services managers have now successfully helped 29 WPPI members apply for and receive this two-year designation. This is well over half of the WPPI Energy membership.

“Our member utilities work hard to deliver forward-looking programs and services to the residents and businesses in their communities,” said Mike Peters, CEO of WPPI Energy. “It’s great to see them receive recognition like this on a national level.”
