Benchmarking Studies

Benchmarking studies provide members with key indicators by which utility activity can be measured. These studies can be used to identify not only the utility’s strengths but also some areas it may want to investigate more closely.

Benchmarking studies provide members with key indicators by which utility activity can be measured. These studies can be used to identify not only the utility’s strengths but also some areas it may want to investigate more closely. Using financial data from annual reports to the Public Service Commission and financial reports from non-Wisconsin members, WPPI Energy develops a series of financial ratios that can be used to identify variances in the cost of operations between utilities. WPPI Energy staff provides benchmarking studies every other year (fall of even numbered years).

Energy Information Administration 861 Filing

To assist members with required reporting to the United States Energy Information Administration,  WPPI staff develops and files the EIA-861 reports on behalf of members. The data for this filing comes directly out of WPPI data and the member PSC annual reports. By having one source for the filing, it enables members and WPPI Energy responses to be consistent.

Five-Year Projection

Members benefit by receiving a budget projection that is created from the WPPI load forecast and projected wholesale rates. This enables them to have accurate power cost and sales revenue data developed consistently for use in their own utility budget.
