Members of WPPI Energy earn status as Smart Energy Providers
The American Public Power Association is recognizing locally owned utilities as Smart Energy Providers. To earn the designation, utilities must demonstrate a proficiency in energy efficiency, distributed generation, and environmental initiatives.
There are 2,000 public power utilities across the nation, and 97 of them have earned status as Smart Energy Providers. To achieve the distinction, these utilities undergo a rigorous, in-depth review benchmarking their local efforts based on industrywide best practices.
And member utilities of WPPI Energy make up nearly one third of this prestigious group, with 27 utilities earning the coveted title.
By partnering together with like-minded utilities, members of WPPI have built a cost-effective array of the kinds of forward-thinking programs, shared expertise, and modern technologies that align well with the Smart Energy Provider criteria.
APPA recognized the utilities during its annual Customer Connections Conference, which is taking place Nov. 12-15 in San Antonio, Texas.
