February 1 is National Energy Assistance Day and utilities are reminding their income-qualified customers that resources are available to help them and their families stay safe during the winter. Below are resources for Wisconsin, Michigan and Iowa residents.

Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program

WHEAP assists individuals and families that need help paying residential heat and electric bills during the winter months. Applications are accepted Oct. 1 – May 15 each year. For more information, call 1-866-HEATWIS (1-866-432-8947) or apply online at energybenefit.wi.gov/OnlineApps/OnlineApp.

Wisconsin Weatherization Assistance Program

The Wisconsin Weatherization Assistance Program (WisWAP) provides services to help income-qualified homeowners and renters reduce energy use and lower utility bills. For more information, visit homeenergyplus.wi.gov or call 1-866-432-8947.

Michigan Home Heating Credit

The Home Heating Credit, which is funded by the Michigan Department of Treasury, is intended to assist individuals and families who need help paying residential heat and electric bills during the winter months. Applications are available starting in mid-January and end Sept. 30 each year. Forms are automatically mailed to households that received a credit last year. Michigan State Emergency Relief

Michigan’s State Emergency Relief is a crisis intervention program that provides assistance for energy-related expenses such as heating fuel, electricity and home repairs. Applications are available Oct. 1 through Sept. 30. For more information visit michigan.gov/heatingassistance.

Michigan Weatherization Assistance Program

The Weatherization Assistance Program provides free services to help income-qualified homeowners and renters reduce energy use and lower utility bills. For more information visit michigan.gov/mdhhs/doing-business/weatherization.

Iowa Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program

The federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) assists individuals and families that need help paying residential heat and electric bills during the winter months. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis between Nov. 1 and April 30 each year (households with an elderly or disabled member may apply beginning Oct. 1.). Iowa Weatherization Assistance Program

The Iowa Weatherization Assistance Program is available to help improve energy efficiency and reduce heating and cooling costs for eligible households. Individuals may apply for the program year-round. For more information visit hhs.iowa.gov.
