General Definition of Work
The Electric Foreman oversees the construction and maintenance of the electric distribution system of New Glarus Utilities, the Village of New Glarus’ municipality electric utility. This is a working position and is responsible for daily operations, work scheduling, and line crew leadership. The position supervises one full-time staff member.
The Electric Foreman reports to the Village Administrator.

Essential Functions
- Manages daily operations of the electric distribution system, assigns and performs work duties with various crewmembers.
- Keeps inventory records, tracks materials used and maintenance records.
- Updates the Village Administrator on the progress and status of assigned projects and assists with distribution planning.
- Maintains a safe work environment.
- Ensures compliance with all safety codes.
- Installs/removes overhead and underground conductors.
- Installation and maintenance of overhead and underground equipment.
- Termination of underground cable and equipment.
- Installs streetlights, poles, anchors/guys, and performs tree trimming operations and planning.
- Performs trouble shooting and repairs on the overhead and underground electrical system.
- Installation, inspection, and maintenance of substation equipment.
- Operates mini excavator, bucket trucks, digger derricks, pickups, compressors, and other equipment.
- Reviews of various alarms and reports.
- Updates and maintain electric system mapping.
- Works with other department supervisors and employees as needed.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of electrical theory and electric distribution systems.
- Strong ability to read utility maps and schematics.
- Effectively and consistently maintains strong working relationships with employees and the public.
- Ability to climb poles and safely work on and around energized equipment.
- Ability to perform calculations related to the electric utility.
- Must be familiar with lay out of the electrical distribution and transmission systems.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Knowledge and experience with personal computers are required.
Education, Experience and Special Requirements
- Preferred minimum of 5 years journey-level worker with supervisory experience.
- Required high school diploma or GED and completion of Lineworker apprenticeship.
- Valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License – class A.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Project management experience.
- First Aid and CPR certified or ability to obtain.
Physical Requirements
- Work is primarily performed in field, near moving parts and in the outside weather conditions. The employee will be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat, extreme cold and vibration.
- Requires ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under unfavorable weather conditions.
- The employee may occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 100 pounds.
- The noise level in the work environment, on occasion, may exceed 85 decibels and requires hearing protection.
- Employee is required to be on stand-by call and report to the New Glarus Utilities facility within 30 minutes of notification or be within 30 miles of the facility at notification.
RESPONSE TIME REQUIREMENT:
Candidate should reside within 30 minutes of the Village of New Glarus limits.

COMPENSATION: Starting salary range will be $50.00 to $55.00 per hour, based on experience, plus excellent benefits, including participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System.
