City of Evansville – Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Position

City of Evansville, Rock County (population 5,872) www.evansvillewi.gov is seeking candidates for the position of Building Inspector/Code Enforcement. This is a non-represented, full-time position.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Conducts inspections of buildings, structures, waters and land to determine compliance with all provisions of the Codes.
  • Investigates the condition of properties for code compliance.
  • Accessible and helpful to permit applicants.
  • Oversees issuing of building permits for construction of one-and two-family dwellings.
  • Investigates and enforces all property maintenance, and other codes as assigned.
  • Oversees issuing of general building permits for alterations, replacement and/or repair.
  • Provide typed reports monthly showing the number of permits issued, types of permits and other pertinent information.

Qualified candidates will possess at minimum credentials in Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC) Construction with the ability to obtain within 1 year of start of employment: UDC electric; UDC plumbing; UDC heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC); and soil erosion credentials. Ability to read and understand blueprints, plats, site plans, and maps. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and continuing possession of a valid Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. A strong work ethic, customer service attitude, and excellent interpersonal skills are essential.
