WPPI Energy again takes first as Top Workplace
An Update from WPPI
For the fifth consecutive year, WPPI Energy was designated a Top Workplace in the Madison region by the Wisconsin State Journal. The joint action agency and wholesale power supplier rose to no. 1 in the 2023 survey and nabbed that top spot again for 2024.
According to employee surveys, WPPI staff overwhelmingly recommends working at the joint action agency and 92% said they feel WPPI motivates them to “give their best at work.”
The organization was awarded first place in 2024 among 10 midsize companies in the greater Madison area. Director of Human Resources Nicole Vant Hoff and HR Generalist Michelle Elkins attended the ceremony Wednesday, where WPPI Energy was once again awarded first place, this time out of 27 businesses.
In a separate designation, WPPI Energy also received an award for Clued in Senior Management. Per Energage, a company working with Madison Media Partners to collect survey data, being “clued in” means that leaders actively listen to their employees, who “truly feel heard.” When managers hear and respond to feedback, they can gain “valuable insight from the people closest to the customers” and “are better equipped to serve the market.”
The anonymous survey reflected that engagement is a key component of the workplace. Employees reported that WPPI “does a great job of prioritizing employee well-being,” and “operates by strong values.”
Comments from employees highlight how the joint action agency strives to provide reliable, affordable and responsible energy to its members while also maintaining a positive place to work.
“I love the people I work with and the people I work for,” wrote one anonymous employee. “WPPI creates a positive atmosphere with support and opportunities to learn and grow my career.”
The three words staff used most often to describe WPPI’s culture were flexible, competent and collaborative.
“As a not-for-profit company, we truly are here just to help people,” wrote another commenter. “Looking out for the best interest of our customers, community and environment is motivating.”
Plans for 2025 at WPPI Energy include listening sessions to collect anonymous, honest feedback from employees, building a formal process for employee engagement and a training series to better equip leaders with necessary skills to be effective supervisors.
