Senior Counsel
Locations: Sun Prairie, WI (Hybrid)
WPPI Energy, a Sun Prairie-based municipal electric utility, seeks an attorney with strong transactional skills to join our team as Senior Counsel. This role offers the opportunity to work with existing legal and business staff on complex, high-value projects in a collaborative environment. Responsibilities Include:
- Provide legal counsel and advice on all aspects of operations through regular interface and collaboration with WPPI Energy leadership.
- Structure, draft and negotiate agreements covering an array of transactional matters such as power purchases, generation and transmission acquisition and operations, and taxable and tax-exempt financing arrangements.
- Coordinate with and manage outside legal counsel.
- Assist in developing and maintaining corporate policies, procedures and compliance programs.
- Support monitoring and engagement on behalf of WPPI Energy in legal and regulatory forums.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree and admitted (or willing to promptly attain admission) to practice law in the State of Wisconsin.
- Minimum of four years of experience in one or more transactional practice areas such as corporate, finance, real estate, or commercial contracts.
- Prior utility industry experience is helpful but not required. We value adaptability and a willingness to learn.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact and collaborate at all organizational levels.
- Strong analytical, drafting, and negotiating skills with consistent attention to detail.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting salary range: $135,000 to $180,000, based on experience.
