 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

This work is in the operation of the electric and water distribution storeroom.

Work is responsible for the receipt, storage, distribution, record keeping, and operation of the storeroom.  This position must be responsible for inventory control, familiar with purchase order systems, and computerized record keeping systems.

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK

  • Maintains, expedites proper levels of inventory materials for electric and water distribution crews for maintenance and construction activities. As directed, orders specialized materials and/or minor material through the online ordering system or by obtaining vendor quotes.
  • Obtains best prices, and purchases supplies and materials; performs posting of materials in the inventory system; palletizes material for planned jobs; picks up materials and mail when needed.
  • Works with Electric and Water crews on inventory needs and quantities to be maintained.  Updates the records, in the Accounting System for inventory needs and material specifications.  Maintains a vendor listing of where to order materials and supplies from.
  • Checks materials received against the requisitions for proper quantity, description or specification, and condition; records received materials and assigns inventory numbers, if required. Stores and organizes supplies in the proper location; posts inventory records; maintains perpetual inventory. Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports.
  • Cleans and maintains facilities including snow removal, filter replacements, light bulb/ballast replacement and minor building maintenance.
  • Work with the City garage on drop-off and pickup of vehicles requiring fleet maintenance.
  • Uses a forklift for loading, unloading, and moving materials.
  • Assists in providing quality Customer Service and TEAM oriented.
  • Performs related work and clerical duties, as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK STOREKEEPER II

  • Manages and perform work associated with the procurement and supply of materials for all departments.
  • Analyzes current and historical material usage to identify trends and forecast future needs.  Coordinates with departments to minimize back orders and obsolescence risks.
  • Examine material/stock to verify conformance to specifications and take lead on ordering materials for the crews. Prepares purchase requisitions based on best price, availability and delivery schedule.
  • Performs periodic, special and annual physical inventory of stock.  Conducts a thorough analysis and reconciliation of all inventory and cycle count variances.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Considerable knowledge of ordering materials, stocking methods, and procedures. Familiarity with computerized inventory systems and data entry.
  • Considerable knowledge of the various kinds of equipment, parts, supplies, and materials.
  • Knowledge of purchase orders and requisition procedures.
  • Ability to maintain the storeroom for receiving, storing, and issuing equipment, parts, supplies and materials, and to keep pertinent inventory records and related reports.
  • Must be able to regularly handle 50 lbs. or more.
  • Must be TEAM oriented and able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other employees, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing.
  • Ability to use a PC for work related to job duties, including e-mail operation.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift for handling materials.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Wisconsin Drivers License and Power Industrial
  • Truck (forklift/tow motor) Operators certification.

DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Storekeeper I: High school graduate.  Desirable experience in storekeeping and inventory functions or related work.

Storekeeper II: Associate degree in material management and/or at least 5 years of experience in utility industry with materials used, purchasing and inventory functions.

Or any equivalent combination of education and experience providing the knowledge, abilities, and skills listed above.

WAGES:         $22.10 – $30.15 hourly, depending on qualifications
