Researchers Study CapX2020

 CapX2020 Hampton-Rochester-LaCrosse transmission line construction

The CapX2020 group of transmission projects is a coordinated effort of 11 electric utilities to build nearly 800 miles of new transmission lines in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Researchers at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs recently released a study about CapX2020 that highlights the unprecedented level of cooperation between project participants and the mutually beneficial nature of the project. According to the researchers, the CapX2020 projects could be a model for future energy system planning in the United States.

As a part owner and active participant in the development of the CapX2020 345-kilovolt Hampton-Rochester-La Crosse transmission project, WPPI Energy was involved with project planning, compliance and advocacy, governance, contract development and more.

WPPI Energy’s participation in the CapX2020 project will provide several benefits to members and their customers, including more control over the cost of transmission, better access to renewable energy resources and strong relationships with other project participants.
